Niigata where we stay at this time of year is usually pretty warm. We always advise people to take a T-shirt for the day and maybe a jacket in the evenings.
Last year at the Shintaro Number one Harvest we could have done with shorts it was that hot.
We do get a bit of rain this time of year but nothing to ever ruin a day. The breeders are all in doors so we can just go and take shelter and look at some excellent Koi!
With the UK mobile phone companies doing a certain price per day to use Data in Japan its not much easier to stay connected with people online and back home. We are with o2 and they charge £4.99 per day and that uses whatever plan you have back at home.
We do however require a faster Internet connection because we upload large pictures and video. We always reserve a pocket WiFI device which you book before the trip and collect at Narita Airport upon arrival. Check the company we always use out here
Japanese plug adaptors are the same as American plug adaptors so you can use them for all your charging needs.
Wifi in the Hotel is pretty good too.
If you use Facebook messenger/Whatsapp or FaceTime on the iPhone you can call people via the internet which costs you nothing and it is absolutely fine in quality. When everyone in the Hotel is using the internet then it can become slow. In the bar area of the Hotel we stay in there is a different WIFI which is very strong.
They even now have Wifi in the mountains now so let us know when you arrive and we can register you.
There is no need to smuggle any food favourites in the case. Japan is becoming very western recently with all your favourite fast food places, all different kinds of restaurants which are all over Nagaoka City, from Italian to Chinese to Burgers, and even fish and chips in recent years.
So thats pretty much it.
