A typical day?

Many people ask us what a typical day is around the mountains on the Koi buying trips to Japan.
At the Autumn Harvests there is absolutely little point in doing any kind of schedule apart from the days where there is a pre planned event taking place, like a main Harvest, Koi Show etc.

We can change the plans from visiting a single breeder who might tell us some information regarding another breeder so we then go and visit that breeder, so it can change that quick.

The only thing we actually plan is that we leave the Hotel at 9am! (Unless its a pre planned thing, like a Harvest)

Where we stay in Nagaoka its a 20 minute drive the the top of the mountains, Mushigame village where the likes of Shintaro, Yagenji, Kazuto, Marusho, Yamamatsu and many more. Then you drop down the mountain to visit the likes of Torazo, Izumiya, Isa, Dainichi, Marusei, Maruhiro, Hiroi Seiji, Yozaimon, Marudo and LOADS more… There are at least another 30 we can visit and call into.
We will call in at breeders we haven’t visited for a couple of years and see how they are getting on.

With the clients who come, some are looking for that single Koi, so we need to have a good look around and make sure we find the right Koi for the customer.
We have a good idea about what Breeders will have that kind of fish, and we have been in touch with some breeders before the trip to see what they will have available.

We can call in at a breeder at 9.30am and they could be bringing in new Koi so we may stay there and watch them bring the Koi in and then go for lunch with them. It is different every day.

So a day can never really be planned 100%. Which for me is part of the experience. Some trips are tied to a handful of breeders so every day is exactly the same, we have no restrictions and can go anywhere we want, so the day can turn into really special days.

Weather won’t put us off too much either, the only time we may finish a little early is because the light has gone. You want to look at Koi when it is bright and you can see them in good light.

So we cannot really have a typical day, we just have fun days!!
